Echoes from our 8th General Assembly


Almost a month has passed since WCCE held its 8th General Assembly from 10-13 October in Santiago de Cuba. As you may know, UNAICC hosted our 8th General Assembly on the occasion of an international workshop on Tourism & City. The attendance to WCCE activities by our Cuban counterparts and WCCE delegates was very high and enriched our activities with their expertise.

Echoes from our 10th General Assembly


The 10th General Assembly of the World Council of Civil Engineers (WCCE), a UN- Water partner, took place in Victoria Falls, from 15 - 19 September 2015, hosted by the Engineering Council of Zimbabwe 
on the occasion of UNESCO's African Engineering Week at the same venue. The attendance to WCCE activities by our African  counterparts and WCCE delegates was very high and enriched our activities with their expertise.

Diversity Award Candidacies: Deadline June 27th 2014

Call for entries opens for the second global award for diversity champion


Airbus, the leading aircraft manufacturer, and the Global Engineering Deans Council (GEDC), have launched the call for nominations for the second β€œDiversity Award”. Its objective is to recognise individuals who have been proactive in bringing more diversity* into engineering schools and universities. The Award was developed and funded by Airbus in partnership with the GEDC, the leading international organisation for engineering education

You can visit www.diversityinengineering.com to find out more about the award and last year’s finalists. I have also attached a flyer, some guidelines for nominees, and the submission form to this email. I encourage you to share any of these documents and/or this email about the award.

The deadline to submit a nominee for this year’s award is 27 June 2014, and each nomination should be supported by a Dean of engineering.

CICPC - New member of the World Council of Civil Engineers

The first week of March was held in the city of Praia, Cape Verde, the 6 th Meeting of Professional Associations of Civil Engineering of Portuguese and Spanish language, whose vice-president and secretary assumes the College together with the Order of Engineers of Portugal. During this meeting, its General Assembly agreed to become associate member of WCCE.

During the meeting, the topics covered a general debate themed 'The Civil Engineering in the World 2020 - Mobility, Social Responsibility, Education and Professional Civil Engineer' for a General Assembly subsequently embodied in the Declaration of Praia. Likewise, there was Portugal's reelection as President and the College as Vice President. The next meeting will take place in 2016 in Spain.

Carlos Mineiro, New WCCE President Elect


Eng. Carlos Mineiro has been appointed President Elect on September 18th, 2015. He will take over the presidency of the World Council of Civil Engineers (WCCE) during its 13th General Assembly to be held in 2018. Mr. Mineiros, a worldwide recognized engineering professional from Portugal will serve a three year term for the period 2019-2022. Carlos Mineiro will suceed mexican engineer Alfonso GonzΓ‘lez.

He currently holds the office of Southern Region's Bastonario from Ordem dos Engenheiros from Portugal. Its areas of hydraulic engineering expertise is specifically in water supply and sanitation. Born in Abrantes (Portugal), 64 years old, and civil engineer with a brilliant academic record culminated in his studies of Civil Engineering at the Instituto Superior TΓ©cnico (IST), Lisbon 1975.

Armando Rito, Civil Engineering Excellence Awardee 2014

Engenheiro Armando Rito, The PhD in Civil Engineering received from the President of the World Council of Civil Engineers, Mr. TomΓ‘s Sancho, the Excellence Award for Civil Engineering of the World Council of Civil Engineers, Civil Engineering National 2014 in recognition of his dense and fruitful career marked by perseverance, hard work, efficiency and entrepreneurship, what has been a very prominent figure in structural design.
